Ten years ago, the pulse of downtown Raleigh was sluggish. Now it’s vital. Concerts, festivals, movies, food trucks and even ice skaters congregate in City Plaza, surrounded by boutiques and restaurants.
But spring and summer belong to the innovative Downtown Raleigh Farmers Market. At least on Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
What’s so innovative about the Downtown Raleigh Farmer’s Market?
Visitors can expect a market in an urban atmosphere with not just traditional market items but also grab-and-go meals, crafts, and a myriad of locally sourced/produced goods. It’s a pop-up market, meaning there are no permanent structures.
They also have live, local music every week.
In addition to these weekly features we also have monthly theme days which could include anything from a chef demonstration to an educational class on pollinators and bee keeping. See below for details.
In 2017, more farms will be represented. There will be more fresh seafood from the coast, new restaurants, and the most diverse lineup of NC musical talent of any market in the area.
The market also matches EBT/SNAP dollars up to $10 for patrons. It brings food options to downtown which are not only all local (sourced locally and produced) but also priced to be competitive and accessible.
The market offers healthy local items you cannot find anywhere else downtown.
